In the year of the Russian World Cup, what more nostalgic memory than the ball that for some years formed part of the Russian Football Union’s logo. Testament to its peerless graphic impact, the Adidas Tango triad devices dominated football related merchandise and commercial imagery throughout the 1980s. For sale is an original example of the ball as used in the 1980 European Championships. It has never been played with and holds its shape perfectly. I have not attempted to inflate the ball for fear of ruining both the bladder and stretching the leather panels and seams however a collector may prefer to fill the ball with silicone to preserve its geometric integrity. It features an age appropriate valve to prove it is not a recent re-release of the ball. Aficionados will know that the original Tango (branded simply Durlast) was the 1978 world cup ball however the legend was continued over onto the European Championship ball in1980. Over two panels there is very slight evidence of the original price having been written directly onto the ball. This is illustrated in the last photograph in the sequence above.
